Privacy

Moe’s Blog is a personal blog. You can read everything on it without telling us anything. This page covers what we hold if you choose to make an account or get email updates.

What we collect

  • Reading the blog: nothing. There are no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies.
  • An account: your email address, the display name you choose, and a small profile picture if you add one. If you sign in with Google, Google gives us your name, email and profile picture.
  • Likes and comments: what you like, what you write, and when. Comments are public, shown with your display name and picture.
  • Email updates: your email address, and whether each email was opened, which the email service records.

Why

Only to run the site: to sign you in, show your comments and likes, and send you one email when a new post goes up if you asked for it. We do not sell, rent or share your details with anyone for their own use.

Where it is kept

Accounts, likes and comments are stored with Firebase, a Google service. Email updates are sent through MailerLite. Both store data on servers outside New Zealand, mainly in Australia, the United States and the European Union, under their own privacy protections. Cloudflare serves the site and sees the usual connection details, such as your IP address, in its logs for a short time.

Cookies and storage

Your sign-in state is kept in your browser’s own storage so you stay signed in. Editors of the blog get one cookie that identifies them to the site. That is all.

Removing yourself

  • Account: open your profile and choose Delete my account. Your account, likes and comments are removed.
  • Email updates: every email has an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately.

You can also email [email protected] to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted.

Your rights

We handle personal information under New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020. If you think we have got something wrong and we cannot sort it out with you, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Changes

If what the site collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves.
